Food, Art, Bread and Puppet

This project explores the unique art forms and customs of the Bread and Puppet Theater and how these practices have contributed to its longevity. Bread and Puppet intentionally combine art and food as they believe both are a necessity for human life, shown in their tradition of serving homemade bread at its performances. This act of nourishment strengthens the bond between performers and spectators. Additionally, the theater confronts difficult topics, such as oppression, war, and genocide using Cheap Art – an accessible artform, just as food should be accessible to all, meant to challenge “fine” or “high” art, and empower communities.
